Who are the borderland Winds?

Joe Groff - Oboe

Joe started playing the oboe in the seventh grade.  Chamber music quickly became his favorite musical form.  He eventually studied music history at Hamilton College and continued his interest in that field at Smith College without completing the Masters degree program.  During his time after graduating from Hamilton, he played in the Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra in Western Mass.  He also played in various chamber ensembles.  Life takes unusual turns, though, and a career in music was replaced by one in computer programming.  For many years he placed less emphasis on the oboe, studying voice instead.  He spent those years singing in some very good choirs in Connecticut where he met his wife Cyd, who is also a singer.  In retirement, he has resumed his love of playing the oboe, and is very happy to be a part of Borderland Wind

Eric Neilsen - French Horn

Alice Woods - Flute

Richard Hopkins - Bassoon

Juanita Burch-Clay - Clarinet
